Firstly, it is important to realise that medications, which can be prescribed by your doctor, can be very effective.
More severe cystic acne, which has not responded to general practitioner prescribed medications, should be assessed for treatment with Roaccutane (TM) or similar retinoids. Only dermatologists are able to prescribe these medications. Please obtain a referral from your GP to see Dr Jim Walter, Dr Terence Poon or Dr Penny Lee for an appointment.
There has been a lot of media attention lately on the subject of the treatment of acne by laser. The lasers used for treatment are not new, some of them have been available for treating other conditions for many years. It must be said, that despite media hype, the effectiveness of lasers in treating acne has some limitations. Certainly, severe cystic acne does not respond to laser to any significant extent. Second generation IPL instruments are also useful in treating mild and moderately severe acne.
There is evidence that moderately severe acne will improve to some extent following laser treatment and this clinic is currently offering laser treatment as an option for our acne patients. Certainly the treatment is very safe and minimally invasive. It is just a matter of whether results will meet patient's expectations.
At present there are no photos of this procedure in the gallery, but there will be in the future.
Dr Jim Walter, Dr Terence Poon and Dr Penny Lee are highly skilled and experienced in the use of these lasers. For an initial consultation, please contact the clinic on 02 9953 9522.
