Often referred to as 'Dermal Fillers', these substances are used to enhance facial features. Temporary fillers and newer permanent fillers can be used to make the lips fuller and re-contour facial areas. Permanent fillers are best for indentations and scars. Fillers can also be used for wrinkles present at rest.
How do these
treatments work and what is involved?
These fillers, for example Restylane, Juvéderm and Esthélis, are injected, usually under local anaesthetic using a tiny needle. The effects of temporary fillers (usually used for lip enhancement and to reduce the appearance of nasolabial folds) last for between three to six months. The permanent fillers (used for the same indications as well as for depressed scars) last for up to ten years.
