Unwanted facial and body hair is a problem for many people. This may result from hereditary or hormonal changes. Laser assisted hair removal offers safe, non-invasive removal of unwanted hair with minimal discomfort. This provides a long-term alternative to waxing, shaving, depilatory creams and electrolysis.
This practice has three state-of-the-art lasers available for treating hair, whereas many other clinics just have one. This enables us to treat patients with all hair colours and skin types.
Unfortunately very fair or grey hair does not respond to any lasers available worldwide at this time.
How do these
treatments work?
Hair removal lasers work by selectively targeting hair follicles during the active hair growth phase, while leaving the surrounding structures unharmed. At any one time, only a percentage of hair follicles are in the growth phase, the amount depending on the area of the body. Hence, a number of treatments, approximately six to eight weeks apart, may be required for a pleasing cosmetic result. The number of treatments required depends on the site to be treated, the hair growth cycle and the patient's individual response.
Hair removal lasers can achieve 60-80% hair reduction over a course of treatments.
What does the treatment involve?
The light pulses produced by the laser feel similar to a rubber band flicking against the skin. It is well tolerated by the majority of patients without the use of local anaesthetic cream. It is much less painful than electrolysis.
Hair should be as short as possible prior to treatment. It is necessary to shave or use depilatory cream in order to achieve this.
Avoid plucking, waxing or electrolysis for one month prior to the treatment. For the face, avoid these activities for two weeks prior to the treatment.
Avoid sun exposure and tanning beds immediately before and after the treatment. Avoid the application of fake tan for two weeks prior to treatment.
The skin may be slightly red for up to twelve hours after treatment. This can be covered with make up immediately. You should continue to use your regular skin care products.
